About the role

The Community Engagement team plays a pivotal role in maintaining the trust and goodwill between the City of Swan (the City) and our community. There are growing expectations within the community that they will have a say on projects that impact them, and that the City will listen to their views. To that end, undertaking meaningful, timely and thorough consultation is critical to maintaining our social license, while also improving the City’s decision-making and ensuring we deliver outcomes that align with community priorities.

The Community Engagement Support Officer plays a role in supporting the Community Engagement team to deliver high-quality engagement initiatives that align with the City of Swan’s Strategic and Operational objectives by supporting the administration requirements of the team. This position is proactive, responsive, and innovative, assisting in the administration of effective planning, coordination, and delivery of community engagement activities across the organisation.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Provide high-level administrative support to the Community Engagement Team.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and delivery of community engagement events, forums, workshops, and consultations for the Communications and Engagement team.
  • Liaise with internal business units and external stakeholders to support engagement initiatives.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and communication materials.
  • Maintain and develop systems, procedures, and resources to support engagement activities.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engagement practices in line with the City’s Community Engagement Framework and IAP2 framework.
  • Foster inclusive and culturally aware engagement practices.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community members, stakeholders, and colleagues through various communication methods (e.g. phone, email, in person) as required within role.

About you

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Diploma or Certificate in Business Administration, Community Development, Community Engagement, or a related field; studying towards a qualification in the above or equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Working With Children
  • Current ‘C’ class driver’s licence.
  • A satisfactory National Police Certificate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative, and meet deadlines.
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

The salary for this position will be from $72,362 to $87,036 per annum, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
