On behalf of the Northern Territory Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Red Appointments are currently seeking to recruit Witness Assistance Service Coordinators. The positions are based in Darwin and are required to coordinate the Crown and Summary WAS teams and attend as required Local and Supreme Courts in Darwin and remote circuit courts in the Northern region to provide support to victims, witnesses and their families. The positions work closely with prosecutors and other agencies to ensure the best outcomes for victims and witnesses during the court process. The positions are required to travel to remote communities with overnight stays.
Salary range: $96,620 – $107,721
The DPP in the Northern Territory of Australia plays a central role in the criminal justice system, with responsibilities defined by the Director of Public Prosecutions Act 1990. The DPP is responsible for instituting, preparing, and conducting criminal prosecutions on behalf of the Crown before the various Courts throughout the Northern Territory.
Key requirements:
Sound knowledge of the criminal justice system together with high-level skills appropriate to the provision of advice, support, information and assistance to victims, witnesses and their families.
Experience in the training, supervision and leadership of staff with the capacity to manage change.
Ability to provide high quality advice to senior management on the provision of witness assistance services.
Proven ability to work and communicate effectively in a cross-cultural environment and a demonstrated understanding of the issues that affect Aboriginal victims, witnesses and their families.
Proven ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders.
Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure, make sound judgements, work independently, and prioritise workloads in a busy environment.
Hold (or have the capacity to obtain) a current NT driver's licence, and willingness to travel to remote locations by light aircraft/4WD.
