Reitsma Constructions is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Architect to join our Pre-Construction team. We are looking for a dedicated professional to take on the role of Design Manager, overseeing a diverse range of commercial construction projects. This is a unique opportunity for an architect currently working in an architectural practice to pivot their career and apply their expertise in a fast-paced, collaborative construction environment, guiding projects from concept to completion.

The Role

As the Senior Architect and Design Manager, you will be the key link between the design teams and the construction process. You will be based in our office and will work closely with the Directors, Estimating team, and Construction team to ensure seamless project delivery. Your primary responsibilities will include:

Design Coordination: Manage and coordinate with external architectural and engineering consultants to ensure all design documents are accurate, complete, and aligned with project goals.

Design Compliance: Ensure all design elements adhere to the National Construction Code (NCC) and relevant Australian standards.

Authority Approvals: Manage the Authority Approval process, including submissions and liaison with regulatory bodies. ( Council, Planning Portal, Certifiers, Utility Providers )

Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough reviews of drawings and specifications to maintain high standards of quality and manage compliance.

Project Leadership: Provide design-related leadership and guidance throughout the construction phase, helping to resolve any issues that may arise throughout the project.

Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for all design-related matters, ensuring clear and effective communication among clients, contractors, and the design team.

Value Engineering: Actively participate in value engineering efforts, identifying opportunities to optimise designs for cost-effectiveness and efficiency without compromising quality.

While some documentation work will be required, the majority of this role is focused on the management of the consultant team, authorities, and the client.

What We're Looking For

A registered architect with extensive experience in commercial construction projects.

Proven track record in a design management or similar leadership role.

Experience in Education, Community, Churches, Aged Care, Automotive, and General Commercial projects is highly beneficial.

In-depth knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC) and relevant Australian standards.

Strong technical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in industry-standard software (e.g. AutoDesk )
