About Thread Consulting
Thread Consulting is a boutique management consulting firm working primarily with public sector and non-government organisations. We are a largely remote workplace, using a variety of online tools to collaborate with our clients and to operate as a close-knit and supportive team.
Thread Consulting was established in July 2022 and continues to experience rapid growth and change, with an evolving client base driving us to mature and expand our services and offerings.
What the Consulting Manager does
The Consulting Manager is a senior member of the Thread Consulting team and a leader in serving our clients.
Operate with a high level of autonomy to develop and lead engagements, develop professional relationships with clients and produce high quality client-ready analysis and recommendations.
Problem solving
Partner with clients to thoroughly understand problems, generate insights and options, and collaboratively find solutions or recommendations for improvement.
Craft clear problem statements based on client briefings and assign appropriate analytical approaches, including resolving where and how to source relevant data and information.
Research & Analysis
Conduct research, surveys and interviews using a range of qualitative and quantitative techniques, seeking and learning new techniques for research and analysis as needed.
Develop agendas for and facilitate client sessions, workshops and meetings to source information and inform analysis.
Contribute to building and refining the bank of proven Thread Consulting methodologies.
Advice
Draft client-ready well-founded advice on a broad range of policy, strategy and operational issues, seeking external resources to develop and test your recommendations where needed.
Provide information and lead discussions based on high-quality written and verbal presentations.
Lead the development of written reports including developing draft report structures, draft insights and recommendations, and managing the completion of a deliverable.
Relationships
Quickly form excellent relationships with clients, developing the trust to solve problems and the communication to share messages that might be hard to hear.
Lead the management of relationships at NSW Government graded level Director and below, and together with Partners, support relationships at Executive Director level and above.
Organisation
Excellent at organising your work products, scheduling your own time, directing and supporting your Thread colleagues, and managing projects.
Support and enable diverse project teams; all while fitting into the client’s way of working.
Take responsibility for all aspects of an engagement from inception to close, ensuring products are delivered on time and within allocated resources.
Identify and escalate risks quickly and recommend practical solutions if an engagement is not tracking to resource plans.
Business management
Lead and support Thread Consulting business management administrative tasks as agreed and considering your working pattern, including:
team development (e.g. team meetings, training junior staff, social events)
financial management (e.g. invoicing and regular financial transactions)
general administration (e.g. document management, communications channels)
digital media (e.g. updating the website and social media).
Business development
In collaboration with the Partners, contribute proactively to business development including generating recommendations and referrals through your relationships with clients.
Key part of building proposals including attending client briefing sessions, designing and drafting approaches, estimating effort and price, developing formal Expressions of Interest and setting up internal and external post-engagement reviews.
About you
As Consulting Manager and Thread team member you:
Are smart, organised and self-motivated, with a collaborative approach to working with others
Have at least four years’ experience in consulting with a track record of leading engagements and demonstrated analytical, presentation, relationship and communication skills
Have strong people management skills, effectively assigning tasks and giving feedback
Have at least one area where you specialise, such as Human Resources, Economics or Organisational Psychology (or others), and further areas where you are developing expertise.
Employment arrangements
Location: Work remotely from a home office, and in designated client offices from time to time. Occasional travel within the Sydney basin and infrequent interstate travel.
Hours: Full time 35 hours per week (negotiable). Weekend and evening work and some travel may be required, with flexible working conditions.
Salary: Start of range $128,000 per year + superannuation. Discretionary bonus available.
