On behalf of the Office of the Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia (OSECI), face2face Recruitment wants to hear from interested candidates.
This role is available across all states in Australia with hybrid/remote working arrangements. Part time work arrangements will also be considered. This is a fixed term contract for 24 months with potential for extension.
About the Organisation
The Office of the Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia (OSECI) plays a key role in supporting the Australian Government’s efforts to address and counter Islamophobia. It's work is focused on advancing community trust, promoting cultural responsiveness, and delivering targeted initiatives that challenge stereotypes and foster inclusion. By building community resilience and responding to Islamophobic incidents, OSECI provides vital input to policy, advocacy, and public engagement.
About the Job
The Community Engagement Lead will oversee OSECI’s community engagement priorities, building trusted relationships with diverse Muslim communities, civil society organisations, service providers, faith leaders, and all levels of government. Operating under broad direction, the role will lead engagement planning, navigate sensitive issues, and ensure authentic, inclusive dialogue that strengthens trust and supports the Special Envoy’s mandate. This position requires a strategic communicator and skilled facilitator who can engage with empathy, manage sensitive conversations, and represent OSECI at national forums and events. The role also involves preparing accurate reports, briefings, and stakeholder analyses to inform decision-making, while leading initiatives that improve public understanding of Islam and Australian Muslim communities.
Key areas of focus include:
Raise the profile of OSECI by communicating its mission, activities, and impact
Ensure stakeholders are heard and engaged through advisory panels, roundtables, and forums
Lead the development and coordination of events, lectures, and conferences to foster dialogue
Build strategic networks and partnerships to challenge Islamophobia and strengthen collaboration
Prepare reports, briefings, and stakeholder analyses for the Special Envoy, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Oversee engagement strategies, monitor risks, and provide advice on complex community issues
Represent OSECI in external forums, stakeholder meetings, and sensitive discussions
Support the development of operational policies and best-practice engagement processes

Required Skills and Experience
To be considered, you must:
Be an Australian citizen.
Hold or have the ability to obtain a baseline clearance.
Essential qualifications and skills:
Strong cultural competency, empathy, and professionalism in engaging with diverse communities
Degree or substantial experience in Communications, Public Relations, Social Science, Community Development, International Relations, or a related field
Proven experience in community engagement, stakeholder relations, or partnership development
Ability to navigate sensitive political, social, and cultural contexts
Highly-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex issues clearly
Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and conflict resolution capability
Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and decision makers
Experience in risk management and strategic engagement planning
Desirable:
Understanding of government decision-making processes
Experience coordinating public forums, town halls, roundtables, or conferences
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
Multilingual communication skills
Postgraduate qualifications relating to Australian Muslim communities, Islam, or Islamophobia
