Job Scope – Mechanical Engineering Technician
Position Summary:
The Mechanical Engineering Technician provides technical support in the design, development, installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment. The role involves assisting engineers, preparing technical drawings, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Support & Design
Assist engineers in designing, modifying, and improving mechanical systems, equipment, and components.
Prepare and update technical drawings, schematics, and CAD models.
Support in prototype development and product testing.
Maintenance & Repairs
Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of machinery, tools, and equipment.
Diagnose mechanical faults and implement solutions to restore functionality.
Maintain records of servicing, repairs, and maintenance schedules.
Testing & Quality Assurance
Conduct performance and safety tests on mechanical systems.
Inspect equipment and parts to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
Report on test results and suggest improvements where necessary.
Project Support
Assist in installation and commissioning of mechanical equipment on-site or in workshops.
Monitor project progress and provide feedback to engineers and supervisors.
Support in preparing technical documentation, manuals, and reports.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety procedures.
Follow engineering standards, codes of practice, and company policies.
Participate in risk assessments and hazard identification activities.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with engineers, fabricators, technicians, and contractors.
Provide technical guidance to junior staff or apprentices.
Communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong mechanical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in CAD software and mechanical drafting.
Hands-on skills in operating tools, machinery, and testing equipment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals.
Knowledge of WHS (Workplace Health & Safety) practices.
Good teamwork and communication skills.
Qualifications
At Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and 2-3 years of relevant work industry experience.
Experience in mining environments or fabrication workshops is desireable (not necessary).
Annual Basic Salary offered for the position is $76,515.00
