Senior Engineer - Major Construction Projects Team
- $139,724.00 per annum + 12% superannuation
- Full-Time ongoing opportunity
- Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung/Melbourne CBD location with regular travel throughout Victoria
About the opportunity
The Senior Engineer as an appointed Inspector, works closely with members of the Major Construction Projects Team, participating in risk profiling of nominated projects, business planning and workplace interventions, as well as contributing to the development and continuous improvement of strategic oversight processes and initiatives.
Utilise expertise to provide specialist engineering services, advice, and the implementation and administration of specialist processes aligned with the framework of the OHS legislation.
You will provide authoritative analysis, specialist engineering knowledge and expertise to inform the decision-making of others, including the recommendation of business solutions, and contributing to the development of initiatives to reduce risks to health & safety.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide expert advice, conduct analysis and apply contemporary technical information to influence a reduction in the incidence and severity of work-related injury and disease.
- Effectively partner with nominated staff to facilitate the provision of engineering support to the major projects oversight strategy and complex workplace interventions, building capability across multiple teams and the development of tactical activities for local delivery.
- Participate in project risk profiling workshops to review factors such as works schedules and scope and perform analysis to determine optimal intervention points and understand local inspector training and coaching needs.
- Lead or participate in site verification visits, to confirm that safe work methodologies that were proposed for higher-risk activities during works schedule reviews have been implemented as planned, maintained, and remain sufficiently effective.
- Contribute engineering expertise to the development of legislation, standards, guidance materials, operational policies and procedures.
- Provide subject matter expertise to collaborative research initiatives.

Skills and experience
- A strong technical and practical knowledge of engineering and experience in the application of design, operational systems, processes and procedures to reduce the incidence and severity of injury and disease associated with design, structural processes, plant and equipment
- Understanding and prior application of engineering principles in relation to the construction (or allied) industry, particularly in relation to the engineering and design of plant, structures and applicable methodologies, and related safe systems of work
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, including demonstrated ability to interpret complex technical information and data
- Understand and prior application of OHS Management Systems (OHSMS)
- Ability to undertake effective research and analysis and produce accurate reports and material
- Demonstrated ability and experience in the development of structural designs and initiatives that aim to influence the understanding and behaviours or actions of others.
- Understanding and prior application of project management methodologies, including the preparation of project plans and undertaking project evaluation
Qualifications
- A degree in a relevant discipline of engineering
- Eligible for full membership of Engineers Australia
- Hold a current Australian driver's licence
- Willingness to complete a comprehensive 16-week training program in February 2026, whereby you will be appointed as an inspector under the health and safety legislation administered by WorkSafe, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Equipment (Public Safety) EPS Acts and the Dangerous Goods Act 1985 & subordinate legislation
