Normaton is located on the banks of the Norman river approximately 498 km from Mount Isa along the Matilda way. Normaton is the regions' government and administrative centre for the Carpentaria Shrine which includes Karumba. Primary industries are mainstay of the area, along with tourism.
The Traditional Custodians of the Normanton area are the Gkuthaarn, Kukatj, and Kurtijar peoples.
About the role
This position is responsible for providing, under supervision, a range of health services that assists in the prevention, early detection and management of health problems and to work with the community, to address health issues in partnership with community and other government departments.
To support the facilitation and provision of quality and fiscally responsible services which are consistent with contemporary standards and evidence-informed practice.
To excel in patient safety by active contribution to a framework of sound clinical governance.
Requirements
- To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
- Applicants will be employed (temporary full-time) at the HWF1 classification for a maximum of 18 months, during which time they will be required to complete a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice).
- C Class Motor Vehicle Licence.
- Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including Criminal History checks.
- This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
- A period of probation may apply.
