About the job
Are you a Commercial Finance or Costing Specialist that has a passion for supporting complex projects wanting to shape the future of Australia’s defence and national security landscape?
If so, join us.
About us
Aldermane is an award-winning legal and commercial consulting firm that seeks to ensure the safety of Australia through the delivery of cutting-edge Defence projects and major Government programs. We work directly with our clients to resolve major contracting, strategic, and security issues, so that the Australian Defence Force remains operational and ready to protect people just like you.
We are a young and vibrant team of lawyers, accountants, and project advisory specialists who want to deliver our services differently. By adopting a flexible service delivery model, we can adapt to our clients’ needs and service them in an agile way, without the constraints of operating in a traditional firm environment.
We were recently named the Government Team of the Year at the 2023 Australian Law Awards, and are seeking to grow in our core Defence, Projects and Commercial finance practice areas.
About you
You’ll be someone who puts people first, with a practical mindset and an approachable style in your professional interactions. Self-motivation and a willingness to learn from top-tier consultants will be key to your success in this role.
Your background will include strong experience in audit, financial review, or contract and project costing and pricing within Government, large-scale corporate environments, or consulting firms. We also welcome candidates moving from Government into consulting. Experience in Defence, national security, or ICT projects would be highly regarded.
Relevant expertise may cover contract and project costing, TCO modelling, business case development, pricing strategies, tender evaluation, contract negotiation, and value-for-money and benefit realisation analysis. That said, we are equally interested in candidates with broader experience in areas such as management accounting or auditing, provided you bring curiosity and analytical strength.
We are open to a wide range of experience levels, and strongly encourage those with relevant expertise and professional accounting qualifications to apply, regardless of the stage of their career.
Mandatory requirement – please read
Given the nature of our work, an AGSVA-issued security clearance is essential. Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold an active NV1 clearance at minimum. Baseline clearances may be considered for exceptional candidates.
Applicants that do not meet this requirement will not be considered.
The role
You will play a key role in delivering nationally significant and high-profile projects across Australia’s growing maritime, air, land, space, and joint domains. In this role, you’ll provide expert advice on complex cost and price modelling, procurement, commercial finance, and contracting issues, with a particular focus on developing and applying robust costing and pricing frameworks.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing strategic commercial finance expertise to support major program activities.
Leading the development of capability and service costing models to underpin business cases, applying deep expertise in cost estimation of resource requirements.
Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with contractual terms and Defence cost and pricing principles.
Conducting contract financial audits and reviewing financial artefacts for proposed contract changes, including providing advice on value-for-money outcomes.
Contributing meaningfully to workshops between the Commonwealth and industry to refine costing and pricing artefacts.
Presenting clear, actionable cost and pricing insights to senior stakeholders.
Remaining flexible and responsive to support other business priorities as required.
As a senior member of the team, you will also help manage and mentor junior staff, contribute directly to client engagement, and play a role in supporting our broader growth strategy.
Remuneration and benefits
By joining our team, you will be rewarded with the following benefits:
Market-leading remuneration – we align our remuneration with top-tier firms, and have generous bonus and incentive schemes for committed and business-minded team members.
Genuine learning and development – we have a learning and development program to enable you to learn from our people and reach your full potential.
Flexible working – we focus on delivering our services in a way that promotes mental health and wellbeing.
Mentoring – you will have a dedicated mentor through our ‘buddy’ system, to support you in your career; and
Culture and community – opportunities to be involved in initiatives which align with our core values of honesty, community, and helping others.
