Position Purpose

The Pick up Stix Venue Manager is responsible for overseeing the food and beverage offerings of Hockey ACT at the National Hockey Centre at Lyneham and Tuggeranong Hockey Park at Greenway. The role is responsible for the everyday management of both facilities, including hiring and management of people, menu development and development and implementation of marketing strategies. Pick up Stix is a Kitchen and Bar is an exciting working environment that has offers daily café and bar services, peak event and match day hospitality, events and function and most importantly is a meeting place for hockey members and the Canberra community to meet. The venue is generally open seven days with opening hours determined by the demand of the venue.

Key Responsibilities

1. Hiring and management of staff which currently includes full time Front of House Manager, Head Chef and Sous Chef supported by a casual workforce.

2. Menu development and implementation.

3. Developing and implementing marketing strategies.

4. Maintaining equipment and facilities to industry standards.

5. Stock management.

6. Supplier mediation.

7. POS management.

8. Ensuring that all necessary licensing is current.

9. Working with budgets set by Hockey ACT Board and executive.

10. Oversee the second service site at Tuggeranong Hockey Park.

11. Maintaining opening hours that meet the demand of the National Hockey Centre and Hockey ACT.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Essential

• RSA

• Food safety certificate.

• Excellent organisational skills.

• High level of enthusiasm with a positive and proactive approach.

• Flexibility to work weekends as required.

• Valid Driver’s Licence.

• Current or a willingness to obtain an ACT Working with Vulnerable Persons check.

• National police check.

• Must have working rights in Australia.

Experience

1. Minimum five years’ experience in the hospitality industry.

2. Industry experience in similar or comparable roles.

3. Experience in a commercial kitchen is preferred but not essential

About Hockey ACT & Pick Up Stix

Hockey ACT is the entity responsible for the organisation and deliver of field hockey in the ACT and its surrounding regional affiliates. Hockey ACT owns and operates two facilities being the National Hockey Centre at Lyneham and Tuggeranong Hockey Park at Greenway.

Pick Up Stix Kitchen and Bar is located at the Lyneham facility and is the central hub for all food and beverage offerings. It is open 7 days per week year-round to cater for the 10,000 visitors to the facility weekly. The business has been operational since 2017 with the space acting as a meeting point for the community that regularly use the facility. The facility is home to the Canberra Chill and other major events which utilise additional food and beverage facilities across the entire centre. The business has been developed to be flexible and scalable depending on the time of year or the day to day activity.

Tuggeranong Hockey Park operates on weekends during the winter hockey season (March - September) and is catered through a small canteen area that serves a limited food and drink menu.
