What is the role?

The AFP’s People Command is currently seeking motivated and capable Senior HR leaders to join a high-performing, passionate team specialising in Workplace Relations. There are five key areas within the Workplace Relations team, including Industrial Relations, Executive Support, Performance Management, People Policy and People Centre.
As a Senior Team Leader in the AFP, you will play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives and talents of each individual.
Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position.

As a Team Leader in the AFP you will play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.
What will you do?
The key responsibilities of the role include:
- Working closely with the Coordinator to provide strategic advice, direction, oversight and support to the team leaders across a number of teams.
- Applying contemporary business improvement and change management knowledge, to drive innovation, enhance service delivery outcomes and facilitate effective change.
- Making informed strategic business decisions relating to budget, priorities, governance, risks, and resource management, ensuring minimal impact and pressure on People Services.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and actively pursue opportunities for cooperation, strategic alliances, and information sharing.
- Leading and mentoring to drive team performance, supported through clear direction, goal setting, health and wellbeing of individuals, and career development.
- Modelling behaviours to promote a workplace culture that aligns with AFP strategy, leadership philosophy and core values.
- Share information on priorities, challenges and opportunities, ensuring the delivery of priorities and outcomes.
- Work with the leadership cohort to deliver on strategic priorities.

Essential Requirements
- You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
- A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, proven contemporary experience demonstrating exceptional stakeholder relationships and demonstrated ability to navigate complex environments and respond swiftly and calmly to priorities.
Desirable Requirements
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
- Tertiary qualifications in relevant field.
- Experience working in one or more of the People Services streams; Industrial Relations, Performance Management, People Policy, HR Advisory, Executive Services and Workplaces Issues and Complaints Resolution.

- This position has been advertised in multiple locations; however, the role is located in Canberra.
- The advertised position is assigned to the Support Working Pattern in accordance with the AFP Enterprise Agreement.
- This position is an AFP Band level
