What is the role?

We are looking for a driven and experienced HR professional to join our team as Team Leader - Strategic Workforce Planning. In this role you will be required to apply your workforce planning knowledge and expertise to design, develop and implement strategies aimed at building a workforce with the necessary skills and capabilities to deliver on our current and future priorities. As a Team Leader, you will also be required to set team directions and ensure alignment with organisational goals, as well as being responsible for coaching and developing team members to build technical expertise, while fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.

The successful candidate will be someone who likes to take initiative to suggest improvements, drive and leverage connections with stakeholders and influence key outcomes.
What will you do?
As a Team Leader, you will support your Coordinator to implement the AFP Strategic Workforce Plan and deliver people-based solutions to workforce issues and challenges that drive enterprise business goals. Day to day activities include but are not limited to:
- Leading the implementation of AFP Strategic Workforce Plan or projects aligned to the intent of the Plan.
- Leading and supporting a team of HR Professionals on strategic workforce planning.
- Setting team direction and priorities in line with workforce planning goals and broader organisational objectives.
- Coaching, developing and upskilling team members to capability needs.
- Supporting team members through business and organisational changes leveraging on clear and concise communication. Leveraging performance metrics and business intelligence to assist in making recommendations to senior leaders and enterprise governance committees that provide tailored recruitment, capability and operational planning.
- Taking responsibility for supporting commands in the development and maintenance of command workforce plans, utilising workforce planning methodologies.
- Performing in-depth analysis of forecasted workforce capability, capacity and performance trends, and model staffing scenarios for budget forecasts and project initiatives.
- Drafting papers, policies and procedures relating to people and workforce planning issues.
- Establishing and maintaining effective relationships internally and externally.
- Developing and implementing communication and workforce strategies.
- Monitoring and tracking progress of HR initiatives.
- Planning and running focus groups/workshops on workforce planning activities.
- Guiding and ensuring external research is undertaken on best practice strategic workforce trends and external drivers influencing labour markets, to inform workforce strategies.
- Providing team members with regular feedback and conducting performance reviews.
- Fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
Essential Requirements
- You must be an Australian Citizen.
- A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a high performing team.
- High proficiency in WFP methodologies and tools, alongside Microsoft Office suite.
- Demonstrated workforce strategy development and strategic workforce planning experiences.
- Advanced business analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with senior leaders and corporate enabling areas.
- Demonstrate highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex information to a non-technical audience.
- Have experience in leading or delivering complex strategic human resource projects or initiatives.
Desirable Requirements
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
- You demonstrate a risk mindset, able to identify and act on current and future risks.
- You are adept at advocating the importance of workforce management and have significant experience in workforce planning methodologies and demand/supply forecasting.
- In addition to your strong analytical background, you demonstrate sound judgement and decision-making skills.
- Tertiary qualified in Human Resources and/or Behavioural Science, or Strategy/Business Administration.
Additional Information
- This role is located in Canberra and applicants are expected to be based in the ACT region.
- This role is an AFP Band level 7.
