The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) is the peak body for youth justice for all children and young people in Queensland, and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child protection. QATSICPP works to influence policy, build sector capacity, and advocate for culturally strong, community-led systems that uphold the rights of all children and young people in the youth justice system, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families, and communities in the child protection system.
About the role:
QATSICPP is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant to join our dedicated team. This role is vital in supporting the financial health and compliance of our not-for-profit (NFP) operations. The successful candidate will manage day-to-day financial transactions, assist with budget tracking, and ensure accurate and timely reporting using Xero accounting software. The role also involves working across multiple cost centres and funding streams which requires accurate allocation and reporting.
Duties and responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Receivable
• Process supplier invoices and payments in a timely manner, following necessary approval processes
• Reconcile accounts payable and receivable ledgers
• Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on overdue accounts
Credit Card & Expense Management
• Process and reconcile credit card transactions
• Ensure all expenses are supported by appropriate documentation and approvals
Payroll
• Process payroll accurately and on schedule
• Administer salary sacrifice arrangements in accordance with ATO guidelines
• Maintain accurate employee records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation
• Prepare and lodge monthly superannuation contributions.
End-of-Month & Financial Reporting
• Prepare monthly reconciliations and journals
• Assist with the preparation of BAS and IAS
• Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports for management and the board
• Assist in preparation of Grant Acquittals
• Support the annual audit process with accurate and timely documentation
Budgeting & Forecasting
• Assist with the development and monitoring of organisational and program budgets
• Track actuals against budget and provide variance analysis
• Work across multiple cost centres and funding streams to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting
Systems & Compliance
• Maintain accurate up to date financial records in Xero
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial systems and processes

• Maintain a high standard of personal and professional integrity in all interactions and decision-making.

• Comply with all Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements, including the prompt reporting of hazards, incidents, and near misses.
• Participate in regular Work, Health and Safety training sessions and initiatives, as required.
• Protect the confidentiality of sensitive information and uphold the privacy of clients, stakeholders, and organisational operations.
Other
• Undertake other duties as requested by the Chief Finance Officer and CEO.
Professional Skills and Experience
• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CA or CPA Qualification, or working towards
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the not-for-profit sector
• Proficiency in Xero accounting software
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll legislation, and salary sacrifice arrangements
• Experience working across multiple cost centres and funding streams
• Ability to apply professional judgment independently within established procedures
Mandatory requirements:
• A current valid Queensland Working with Children's Card (Blue Card) or eligible to apply.
• Current Queensland Driver's Licence.
• Current Police Check
