About us
Yumba-Meta Ltd is a Not-for-Profit entity operating for over 50 years. The organisation is currently seeking a qualified accountant to join the finance team. It is essential that the successful applicant has the demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; including a sound knowledge and understanding of both cultures from a historical perspective and the issues that impact upon them in contemporary society.
Qualifications & experience
Degree in Accounting or Finance (minimum)
CA/CPA qualified
Experience with Social, Community, Home Care, and Disability Services Industry Award 2010
Proficient in accounting software (MYOB, Xero, Employment Hero Payroll)
Sound knowledge of Australian taxation and compliance requirements
Strong attention to detail and excellent time management
Ability to work independently and manage priorities
Relevant experience (3+ years) in a Not-for-Profit
Tasks & responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
· Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Board, management, funding bodies).
· Assist with annual statutory audit preparation of financial statements in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards.
· Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including ACNC, ASIC, and ATO requirements.
Budgeting & Forecasting
· Collaborate with management to develop and monitor annual budgets and cash flow forecasts.
· Prepare budget variance reports with analytical commentary.
· Support Managers with budgeting and financial performance monitoring.
Payroll Management
Maintain the payroll system and ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately in a timely manner.
Compile payroll summaries, including earnings, taxes, deductions, leave balances, and non-taxable wages.
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies where possible.
Update and maintain payroll records in accordance with YML policies and procedures.
Accounts Management
· Oversee general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, and bank reconciliations.
· Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.
· Manage payroll accounting, superannuation reconciliations, and relevant journal entries.
Grant and Funding Compliance
· Track and report on funding allocations, expenditure, and acquittals in accordance with grant agreements.
· Liaise with program teams to ensure proper financial documentation and acquittals for all funded programs.
Systems & Process Improvement
· Support the implementation and maintenance of accounting systems and financial controls.
· Recommend and implement improvements to streamline financial processes and increase accuracy.
· Ensure timely and accurate data entry and system integrity.
Stakeholder Engagement
· Provide financial advice and guidance to non-finance staff to support their understanding and accountability.
Liaise with external auditors, funders, and regulators as required.
