Location: Erskine Park, NSW
Are you a seasoned business development professional from the building materials or steel supply industry? We are currently seeking a driven and strategic Business Development Manager to join a leading steel manufacturer and distributor, specialising in supplying steel products across NSW.
This is not your typical sales role. It’s about partnership, forecasting, and building long-term commercial relationships.
The Client:
A National leader in their field. Specialising in Steel material manufacturing and distribution both locally and interstate.
The Role:
You’ll be working closely with an established customer base. Your focus will be on managing ongoing relationships, forecasting demand, aligning supply with project timelines, identifying new business opportunities and developing customised solutions within a competitive market. Your experience and business acumen will facilitate growth of the existing portfolio.

The Role Duties:
In this role you will have a large client base as well as the opportunity to extend on this and bring in new business. You will be working with our customers that supply into the residential and commercial building industries. You will partner with these clients in ensuring their stock is produced ahead of project schedules as well as during the duration of projects through to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with existing clients to plan upcoming projects and secure future stock requirements focusing on the Frames and Trusses markets
- Maintain strong working relationships with key players in the frame and truss industry
- Manage aged stock and optimise stock levels to reduce waste and improve turnover
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities in line with the company’s strategic goals
- Possible occasional regional travel (e.g. Newcastle, Central Coast, Port Macquarie, Canberra) to support key customer relationships
- Work closely with operations and supply teams to ensure seamless service delivery
- Qualifying potential customers, providing product knowledge, pricing and quotations
- Developing demand forecast for both existing and new customers
- Attend weekly sales meetings, reporting, budgeting and forecasting
- General sales administration duties
What the successful candidate looks like:
To be successful in this role you will pride yourself in your partnership and relationship development skills. This is not a role focused on hunger to drive quick transactional sales but one that focuses on developing and growing both new and existing accounts.
You’ll Bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in sales or an administration field
- Previous experience as a Business Development manager within the steel or building supply industries
- Be results driven and take pride in your work
- Experience in a non-transactional, consultative sales or business development role
- Background in any of the following; steel, Frames and Trusses, True-Core products, bricks, roof tiles, plasterboard, metal, Gyprock, or window supply to the construction sector
- Knowledge of frame and truss manufacturing and supply, or experience working with major residential and building companies
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to build long-term client partnerships
- A strategic mindset with excellent communication and planning skills
- Ideally, experience in managing and optimising stock for customers
