YOKAI -Healing Our Spirit through our partnership with MercyCare will employ a Aboriginal community engagement officer based in Kalgoorlie. The primary purpose of this role is to support the transition of the Kalgoorlie Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation service to MercyCare (as the interim service provider) and provide ongoing community engagement activities to enable the service’s transition to an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organsiation long term.
The role will ensure all transition and community engagement activities are delivered through culturally secure mechanisms acknowledging the needs of all service users, stakeholders and communities involved.
Duties & responsibilities:
Build and maintain relationships with local Aboriginal Communities and Elders.
Undertake community forums, reference groups and projects relevant to community need
Represent Yokai and MercyCare at relevant stakeholder and community events.
Plan, implement, and monitor transition and community projects to ensure timely and effective delivery.
Ensure projects align with organisational goals and community needs.
Manage budgets, resources, and timelines to maximize project success.
Evaluate project impact and outcomes through data collection and reporting
Ensure the development and implementation of appropriate therapeutic services provided to clients either directly or by referral
Participate in maintaining networks with relevant government and non-government organizations
Build and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders, including local groups, businesses, and government agencies.
Facilitate meaningful consultation and collaboration with the community to ensure their needs and voices are heard.
Act as a liaison between the organisation and the community to foster trust and collaboration.
Develop and distribute clear, accessible communication materials (newsletters, social media updates, reports).
Advocate for community interests and ensure they are reflected in project planning and decision-making
Essential skills:
Section 51 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA) applies to this position.
Understanding of evidence-based service models for working with Aboriginal people and communities
Experience and knowledge in the areas of project management and community development
Demonstrated experience working in complex and regional communities.
Experience working with other welfare agencies and professionals
Knowledge of issues presented by regional Aboriginal people and communities
Experience and knowledge working from a trauma informed practice approach
Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills to develop
Registration/s, Licenses
Working with Children Check (WWCC)
Drivers License
National Police Clearance (obtained within the last six months)
