The Opportunity

We are seeking a committed and community-focused Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer to join our Inklings team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring that Aboriginal families can engage confidently and equitably with the Inklings program — a research initiative focused on early intervention for young children showing signs of developmental delay.

You will be responsible for:

Building and maintaining respectful relationships with Aboriginal communities, Elders, and families.

Supporting Aboriginal families during intake and exit from the Inklings program.

Advocating for families and assisting practitioners in delivering culturally safe and respectful services

Representing the program at forums, events, and community meetings.

Working closely with internal stakeholders and the broader community to raise awareness and promote understanding of the program.

This position will work across both Perth Children’s Hospital in Nedlands, and our CliniKids Subiaco site. This is a part-time position (0.2 – 0.4 FTE), until November 2026.

About You

You are someone with a strong connection to community and a passion for supporting Aboriginal families and children. You bring cultural knowledge, empathy, and excellent communication skills to everything you do.

You will also have the following skills and experience:

Demonstrated understanding of the cultural, social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal communities,

Experience in community engagement, health promotion or stakeholder liaison.

Confidence in providing culturally appropriate information to individuals and families.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Self-motivation and flexibility, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

A genuine interest in child development and early intervention (experience in this area is desirable).
