Community Engagement Lead
Victorian Public Tenants Association
Posted 9 days ago
The Victorian Public Tenants Association (VPTA) is the voice of public housing in Victoria. We are the peak body for people who live in public housing as well as those on the waiting list.
Our small, friendly, team is currently seeking a part time (3 days per week) Community Engagement Lead.
If you are:
Someone who believes strongly in the right of every person to a safe, secure and affordable home,
A team player who can work collaboratively as well as independently, and
Comfortable communicating with, and working alongside a broad range of people,
We strongly encourage you to consider applying.
Reporting directly to the CEO and managing a small team, no two days will look the same.
You will spend time both in our office on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, as well as out and about meeting other community organisations, and conducting events with public housing renters and applicants.
Key accountabilities include:
Supervision, support, and guidance of the Community Engagement Officer and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tenant Advocate.
Coordinate, support, and evaluate outreach and engagement activities across metropolitan and regional Victoria.
Coordinate the VPTA’s living experience consultation group.
Conducting outreach events and pop ups at various locations, with a docus on supporting those impacted by the High Rise Redevelopment Program.
Arranging and delivering visits, meetings and events with a wide variety of stakeholders to promote the role of the VPTA and collaboration opportunities, both online and face to face.
Working with renters to resolve their housing concerns or providing a referral to either a VPTA Tenant Advocate or another service if appropriate.
Key Selection Criteria
Previous experience managing a small team.
Strong writing and communication skills, including face to face and online.
The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and develop positive working relationships with key stakeholders.
Previous experience in a community engagement or social assistance focussed role (highly desirable).
Project or event management skills.
An understanding of the challenges and complexities that people are face with in the housing and homelessness sector.
An appreciation of the public housing system in Victoria as well as the broader social housing system and social housing application processes.
As this role requires some travel, the successful applicant must hold a current driver’s license and be comfortable driving long distances and in busy urban environments. It would be beneficial if the successful applicant owned their own, comprehensively insured, car.
Please note, this is a parental leave cover position with a duration of 9 months though there may be an opportunity to extend.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, religions, and genders, including from the LGBTIQ+ and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Please review the full position description for a complete list of role accountabilities and key selection criteria.
To apply, please send a copy of your resume and a document outlining your response to the Key election criteria to [email protected].
