A leading defence technology company is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Sensor Fusion team in Sydney. This role will play a critical part in shaping the next generation of sensor fusion engines, with direct application to countering drone threats at scale.

The successful candidate will work across multiple engineering teams to design, optimise, and deploy performance-critical code, applying advanced mathematics and physics in real-world systems. This is a unique opportunity to solve complex algorithmic challenges in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and optimisation of the company’s sensor fusion engine, with a focus on large-scale swarm tracking.
• Profile, benchmark, and tune performance-critical code using multi-threading, GPU acceleration, and advanced optimisation techniques.
• Assess and implement research in multi-object tracking to ensure the system leverages cutting-edge algorithms.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, ensuring code quality, stability, and performance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve issues across hardware/software interfaces.
• Apply software engineering best practices, including testing, refactoring, and thorough documentation.
• Operate effectively within an autonomous, cross-functional engineering team.

Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in professional software engineering roles.
• Strong proficiency in C++ with additional experience in Python or Golang (including C++ bindings).
• Experience with CMake, unit testing frameworks, and performance optimisation.
• Background in developing data-intensive, real-time systems and/or GPU-accelerated processing (CUDA, TensorRT).
• Familiarity with Linux and containerisation (Docker).
• Experience creating automated workflows for CI/CD environments.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and applied mathematics/physics.

Desirable

• Experience with sensor fusion, multi-sensor data processing, or object tracking.
• Knowledge of AI/ML frameworks and their integration into real-time systems.
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.).
