Infrastructure Engineer - Network & Security Focus (12-Month Contract)
Location: Sydney
Contract: 12 Months, Full-Time
A global organisation in the professional services sector is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to lead a comprehensive review and modernisation of its network and security environment. You'll join a highly skilled infrastructure team supporting a multi-site operation of approximately 750 users across Australia.
This is a hands-on, project-driven role with a focus on auditing, optimising, and strengthening network infrastructure - ideal for someone with deep technical knowledge and a strategic mindset around security, performance, and operational resilience.
What You'll Be Doing
- Assess and document the current network landscape - hardware, topology, connectivity, and security configurations.
- Lead efforts to improve performance, security, and scalability, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and gaps.
- Overhaul and optimise firewall rules, VPNs, access policies, and segmentation strategies.
- Enhance monitoring and alerting systems to improve visibility across environments and reduce incident response times.
- Contribute to hybrid cloud initiatives, particularly around Azure networking.
- Work closely with both internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure system resilience and compliance.
- Deliver detailed documentation, architecture diagrams, and knowledge-sharing sessions to upskill the internal team.
Core Technologies in Use
You'll work across a modern, enterprise-grade toolset including:
- Networking: Cisco switches, Silver Peak routers, Meraki wireless, load balancers
- Firewalls & Security: Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco ISE, VLAN segmentation, ACLs
- Remote Access: Palo Alto GlobalProtect, Azure VPN Gateway
- Cloud & Hybrid: Azure VNets, NSGs, ExpressRoute, Azure Firewall, Application Gateway with WAF
- Monitoring: SolarWinds, Wireshark
- Access & Identity: Azure AD, RADIUS, TACACS+, Microsoft Entra MFA
- Documentation: Visio, Confluence, SharePoint
Success in This Role Looks Like:
- Clear, accurate documentation of all network infrastructure and configurations
- Noticeable reduction in latency, packet loss, and redundant firewall rules
- Improved security posture through segmented network design and zero-trust principles
- Real-time dashboards for network health and performance visibility
- Smooth knowledge handover with documented SOPs and training materials
- Milestone delivery on project audit, optimisation planning, and implementation within contract period
About You
- Proven experience in enterprise networking, security infrastructure, and cloud networking (especially Azure)
- Strong technical audit and documentation skills
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
- Comfortable working independently and owning technical outcomes
- Previous experience in regulated or professional services environments a plus
