About the Company/Role:
Our client is an Australian technology company focused on the commercialization of innovative laser enrichment technologies for applications like Uranium production and enrichment, Silicon enrichment and medical isotope enrichment. The Chemical Process Engineer will be responsible for the scale up process a chemical production plant to support the commercial manufacture of isotopically pure silicon.
Responsibilities include:
- Engineering review of plant equipment prior to commissioning.
- Provide support with the design, construction, installation and commissioning of chemical and industrial process equipment.
- Perform mass balance analysis and track plant operation.
- Analyze suitability and procure valves, fittings, and other components and equipment used in the production plant.
- Advise the team on best practice for chemical manipulations in a variety of low and high temperature and pressure gas and liquid systems.
- Contribute to the engineering design and review of process steps to convert isotopically pure silicon tetrachloride into gaseous and solid product forms.
- Lead the development and documentation of standard operating procedures.
- Investigate and evaluate process optimisation projects.
- Identify hazards and develop safe operating procedures for novel, complex processes.
- Contribute to risk assessments to manage process and equipment safety.
Skills & experience:
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
- Must be an Australian Citizen
- Knowledge of processing and manufacturing operations - chemical plant management, installation, and maintenance
- Demonstrated ability to advise on the handling and use of toxic liquids and gases
- Knowledge of formal risk analysis techniques (HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA)
- Strong understanding of thermal dynamics and reaction kinetics
- Experience with sub-atmospheric & high vacuum gas systems
- Knowledge of techniques for the handling of high purity gases and liquids
- Taking ownership of assigned tasks from planning and design to execution and delivery with a focus on continuous improvement
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software
- Ability to work autonomously, multi-task and prioritize work demands
