Job Description
About the Role
Annual Salary: $120,255 - $150,000 per annum + Superannuation
We are seeking an accomplished and compliance-driven AML Operations Manager to join our Legal, Governance and Risk division, reporting directly to the Head of Financial Crime and Compliance/AMLCO.
This critical leadership position is responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of RWWA’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) operational activities. You will lead the delivery of robust AML/CTF controls and processes, ensuring that RWWA meets its legislative obligations, regulatory expectations, and internal policy requirements while safeguarding the organisation from financial crime risk.
Key areas of accountability include:
- Operational Leadership: Manage the end-to-end operational delivery of AML/CTF functions, including customer due diligence (CDD, ECDD, OCDD), transaction monitoring, and sanctions compliance.
- Case Management Excellence: Oversee the complete case lifecycle, from alert generation through investigation, escalation, and closure, ensuring decisions are documented and auditable in line with legal and regulatory standards.
- Regulatory Reporting: Direct the timely and accurate preparation and submission of AUSTRAC reports, including Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs), Threshold Transaction Reports (TTRs), Annual Compliance Reports (ACRs), and contributions to the Enterprise-Wide Risk Assessment (EWRA).
- Systems and Process Optimisation: Work closely with technology teams and vendors to tune transaction monitoring rules, maintain AML/CTF platforms, and implement process improvements to enhance detection capability and operational efficiency.
- Governance and Assurance: Support the execution of the AML/CTF Program, contribute to internal and external audit engagements, and present compliance insights to senior stakeholders, including Executives and the Audit & Risk Committee.
- Team Leadership and Development: Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, and mentoring to analysts, fostering a high-performance culture that promotes compliance excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Industry Engagement: Represent RWWA at relevant industry forums, conferences, and working groups, staying ahead of emerging risks, regulatory changes, and industry best practice.
Qualifications
About You
You are a respected leader in the AML/CTF compliance field, with a proven ability to balance operational precision with strategic foresight. Your expertise spans both the technical and leadership dimensions of financial crime risk management, enabling you to translate complex regulatory requirements into pragmatic, business-aligned solutions.
To excel in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Extensive AML/CTF Expertise: At least 5 years’ experience in AML/CTF and sanctions-related operations, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity.
- Regulatory and Technical Knowledge: Strong and demonstrable understanding of AUSTRAC reporting obligations, KYC/ECDD/OCDD requirements, sanctions compliance, and case management methodologies.
- Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Law, Commerce, Economics, Finance, or a related discipline. Recognised AML/CTF certification (e.g. ACAMS, ICA) is highly desirable.
- Operational Excellence: Proven success in managing AML/CTF systems, rule tuning, and workflow optimisation to improve detection capabilities and compliance outcomes.
- Leadership Capability: A track record of building, motivating, and developing high-performing teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong capability in interpreting financial data, identifying patterns of unusual activity, and making evidence-based operational decisions.
- Stakeholder Influence: The confidence and communication skills to engage effectively with senior leaders, regulators, auditors, and industry peers, both in writing and verbally.
- Resilience and Integrity: The ability to work under pressure in a dynamic, regulated environment while upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct and discretion.
