About the Role
The Senior Legal Officer provides legal guidance and support to stakeholders across the Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP). The role is responsible for managing the legal duty inbox, responding to legal queries, interpreting Crown Law advice, and providing guidance and support on legal matters. The occupant will contribute to legal compliance by supporting the management of liability and volunteer injury claims, preparing recommendations, and, when required, acting as a delegate under the Right to Information Act 2009.
The Senior Legal Officer prepares high-level documentation including reports, briefings, and correspondence to inform senior legal staff and departmental decision-making. The role liaises with a broad range of stakeholders, including Crown Law, schools, and departmental business units, to ensure consistent and timely legal support. Through these activities, the Senior Legal Officer helps maintain the Department’s legal integrity and supports the delivery of practical, responsive legal services across DECYP.

Ongoing - ASAP Start Date

Essential Requirements
- Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment)
Desirable Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws or other relevant legal qualifications, together with relevant experience in managing legal issues
