About the role
Yarra Ranges Council is currently hiring two Building Compliance Officers. As a Building Compliance Officer at Yarra Ranges Council, you will deliver timely and effective building compliance and enforcement services to support the safety of the community, protect property, and reduce environmental and amenity impacts. You will also contribute to the development of policies and procedures that guide the implementation and enforcement of building legislation, relevant Acts and Regulations, and Council’s Local Laws.
In addition, you will provide accurate and up-to-date advice to customers regarding the interpretation of the Building Act, Building Regulations, and other relevant legislation and policies, drawing on your expertise and knowledge. This role also includes undertaking administrative tasks associated with enforcement and compliance matters, including documenting evidence, preparing inspection reports and making recommendations for the Building Surveyor team, updating the enforcement case management system, and performing other administrative duties as required.
This is a full-time permanent position (38 hours per week).
This is a Band 6 role with a salary range between $95,565 and $104,167 per annum, plus superannuation.
Two Building Compliance Officer positions are currently available.

Experience and skills we’re looking for
The ability to prioritise the customer perspective in decision-making and deliver services that meet both customer and organisational needs.
Great organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate confidently with diverse customers.
The ability to conduct timely and effective inspections, applying appropriate enforcement and compliance to adhere to building legislation.
Confidence and professionalism in attending legal proceedings and presenting evidence as required.
Skilled in objective research and investigation using diverse information sources to make consistent, law-based decisions.
The ability to clearly convey written communication to ensure the audience’s understanding.
