A key focus of the coming years will be working with the State and Federal Governments to establish Melbourne Airport Rail; to complete redevelopment of Sunshine and Albion Stations; and the realisation of the Sunshine Precinct Masterplan which will Sunshine transformed into a CBD, vastly increasing local jobs, housing, businesses, services and tourism to provide for the many tens of thousands of people living, working and travelling through the Brimbank.

We are currently seeking a Permanent Full Timestaff member to join our team based at our offices in Sunshine.
The role
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Assistant Building Surveyor to join our team, reporting to the Municipal Building Surveyor. In this role, you will:
- Assist in the provision of building surveying services to the ratepayers, residents and customers of the municipality ensuring compliance with the building permit, approved documentation, the Building Act, Building Regulations, Building Code of Australia, Australian Standards and applicable Local Laws.
- Assist in the administration of the swimming pool register and any enforcement related tasks required under the Building Act and Building Regulations under the direction of the Municipal Building Surveyor or Deputy Building Surveyors.
- Assist in assessment of Building Permit applications and documentation under the Building Act and Building Regulations including customer engagement to facilitate the approval.
- Assist in the assessment of Council Report and or Consent applications and local law permits including customer engagement to facilitate the determination
- Assist the Municipal Building Surveyor / Deputy Building Surveyors and Building Inspectors in drafting reports, correspondence, requests for information, Notices and Orders, together with general correspondence for review and signature by the relevant authorised officers.
To be considered you will have:
- Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying or equivalent is essential.
- Experience as an Assistant Building Surveyor or equivalent within local government, state government or the private sector (preferred but not essential).
- A current driver's licence is essential.
- Good understanding and working knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations and the Building Code of Australia, referenced Australian standards and construction methods, together with an understanding and awareness of current and emerging technology affecting the building construction process.
- Sound conceptual and analytic skills able to understand and apply legislation, and to prepare clear and concise correspondence.
