Graduate Analyst - Diplomatic Security Division

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is seeking a motivated Graduate Analyst to join our Diplomatic Security Division (DSD). This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to apply their data, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help safeguard Australia’s people, information, and assets.

You’ll work with open-source intelligence, sensitive data feeds, and cutting-edge analysis tools to identify trends, anticipate potential threats, and deliver actionable insights to senior decision-makers.

In this role, you will:

Analyse open-source and sensitive data to identify patterns, trends, and potential threats.

Develop and manage reporting processes to ensure timely, accurate advice.

Collaborate with stakeholders across DFAT, including senior executives, to enhance analytic practices.

Prepare, enhance, and visualise data for key assessments and security priorities.

Support initiatives to improve data governance, security operations, and analytic capabilities.

Draft clear, concise reports and presentations for internal and senior-level audiences.

Contribute to organisational projects and change initiatives.

About you

Mandatory:

Recent graduate in Information Technology, Security Studies, Business, Commerce, or related field.

Skilled in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (written and verbal).

Ability to work collaboratively and support senior staff in achieving organisational objectives.

Australian citizen with NV2 clearance or ability to obtain one.

Desirable:

Digital & data skills with knowledge of SQL, Power BI, Python or similar.

Experience in or with Federal Government.

Knowledge of MS Visio, HyperTerminal, IP networks, or programming/analytical tools (e.g. Splunk, Ruby).
