Due to an upcoming retirement, the Northern Midlands Council is seeking applications from a suitably qualified and experienced person to join the Development Services team as an Administration Officer. The position will be offered on a full-time basis based at Council Offices in Longford.

About the role
We are seeking an experienced administrator to provide efficient and effective administrative support and assistance to the Development Services team, as well as interacting with the public and other key external stakeholders. This is a fast paced and varied position that will see the successful applicant delivering high level administrative support and assistance in accordance with both internal and legislated timeframes. The primary tasks will be to:
Provide a high level of administrative support and assistance in a timely manner
Act as a key point of contact for the lodgement of applications as they are received, and provide ongoing information regarding the status of applications throughout the development process
Prepare a variety of documentation including general correspondence, Council agenda items, certificates, permits, submissions, briefs, and reports.
Manage advertising and other external notifications in accordance with legislative timeframes and requirements
Maintain accurate and efficient records for the department, including recording items in the electronic document management system
Ensure Council’s information systems are kept up-to-date with information regarding applications and progress at all times
Provide backup to other administrative roles within the Council team, including front counter reception.
As part of the broader Development Services team you will be required to undertake training to provide administrative support to assist in other areas for leave coverage and during peak times.
About you
Your application will require a cover letter, no longer than 2 pages, to be submitted that details your experience and demonstrated ability to:
follow structured processes within statutory or fixed time frames,
prioritise competing timeframes in a busy work environment and demonstrate effective time management skills,
work effectively with a team to achieve shared goals,
learn and maintain new systems quickly,
use your excellent written and verbal communication skills to provide outstanding customer service by phone and email,
apply a good eye-for-detail and be able to accurately review documentation for errors, and
read basic development plans would be highly advantageous
The successful candidate will also:
Have 3 years’ experience in a similar role
Have Intermediate MS Word and good all round computer skills
Hold a current Tasmanian C Class Drivers licence (desirable)
Have previous experience in Local Government or other similar regulated environment (desireable)

Terms and conditions of employment, including salary will be negotiated with the successful applicant and in accordance with the Northern Midlands Council Enterprise Agreement.
