About the Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Environmental Sustainability Officer to join our Infrastructure and Environment Team in Freeling. This role is situated in a unique and rapidly growing rural area that features the internationally renowned Barossa Valley, historic townships, and the Roseworthy Township Expansion (RTE). The region is earmarked for significant growth, particularly with the release of the recent Greater Adelaide Regional Plan (GARP).
Key Responsibilities:
Provide guidance in the implementation of Council’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan (ESSAP) to become more environmentally, socially and economically responsible.
Promote sustainable practices and reduction of waste to minimise environmental impacts.
Monitor, report and provide advice on opportunities for improvement in operations, provision of services and project delivery including GHG emissions, energy and water consumption.
Promote sustainability concepts to the community and various community groups.
Continual improvement of Council’s biodiversity footprint
Provide technical advice on environmental and biodiversity matters.
Promote conservation and sustainable land management across the LRC region.
Seek grant funding as may be available to deliver ecological outcomes.
Develop key partnerships to encourage and facilitate education and promotion.
What We’re Looking For:
Qualifications: A degree in Environmental or Resource Management or other qualifications related to the role.
Skills & Experience:
Understanding of all legislation relevant to the position, including Local Government Act 1999 and regulations, Landscapes SA Public & Environmental Health Act, Environmental Protection Act and Native Vegetation Act.
Experience in managing environmental and natural resource issues.
A self-driven professional with strong problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail.
Desirable understanding of the role of Council as a tier of government and its responsibilities to the community.
Experience with computer and cloud-based systems, database management and Microsoft office applications.
Ability to apply relevant theory, principles and techniques to solve problems and complete tasks.
Able to achieve outcomes within budget and timing expectations.
