About the company/role:

Our government client is seeking a TO2 Technical Officer to support the Fire Ant Eradication Program on a temporary 2-3 month contract, with potential for extension. In this role, you will contribute to the delivery of short-term research objectives that are vital to the success of the National Fire Ant Eradication Program. Working within the compliance team, you will provide technical and scientific support for both field and laboratory research trials.

Duties:

• Ensure compliance with established experimental protocols
• Oversee and monitor chemical treatment applications during field and/or laboratory trials
• Collect plant and soil samples for chemical analysis in both experimental and regulatory contexts
• Accurately prepare samples and record field data with attention to detail
• Handle sample delivery and perform data entry tasks
• Collect and culture pest organisms (e.g., insects) for research purposes
• Conduct field surveillance and pest monitoring activities
• Perform various laboratory duties as required, including diagnostics, experimental observations, and sample preparation

Skills/experience:

• Proven experience in scientific data collection, particularly within fieldwork, biological, or agricultural settings
• Skilled in following established procedures with precision and a strong attention to detail
• Capable of performing physically demanding tasks in challenging outdoor environments
• Willing and prepared to handle agricultural chemicals safely
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to collaborate effectively in team environments
