Position overview
The Building Inspector is responsible for inspecting buildings and swimming pool barriers to ensure compliance with the Building Act, Building Regulations, and other relevant legislation. The role involves preparing reports, issuing notices and certificates, and assisting with enforcement actions where required. The Building Inspector also provides professional advice to builders, internal staff, and the public on building matters. They support the Municipal Building Surveyor in delivering Council’s building control functions and maintaining safety standards across the municipality.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Conduct inspections of buildings and swimming pool barriers for compliance
- Issue building notices, orders, reports and certificates as required
- Investigate complaints and undertake enforcement of building legislation
- Provide advice to builders, internal staff and the public on building matters
What we’re looking for:
- A degree in Building Surveying or equivalent qualification
- Registered Building Inspector or Building Surveyor with the Victorian Building Authority
- Strong knowledge of building legislation, safety standards and codes
- Experience in inspections, enforcement and report writing
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently
If successful, you will need to undertake a police check and pre-employment medical check. You must also be legally entitled to work in Australia.
