HorizonOne Recruitment
Posted 4 days ago
Join a high-performing, values-driven agency working on projects that will help secure one of Australia’s greatest natural assets for future generations. This role offers the chance to contribute to significant reform work, supporting communities, industries, and First Nations peoples while responding to the challenges of climate change.
You’ll be part of a productive and supportive team culture where initiative, problem-solving, and a genuine interest in the agencies’ purpose are valued above all else.
The Opportunity
This role combines strategic policy work with performance reporting, giving you a broad and meaningful scope of work. You’ll contribute to nationally significant projects while ensuring the link between policy, performance, and real outcomes is clear and effective.
The position can be based in Canberra, Adelaide, Goondiwindi, Griffith, Mildura, Murray Bridge, or Albury with strong flexible work arrangements in place. You don’t need to be in Canberra to make a real impact; in fact, candidates living in Basin-region communities are strongly encouraged to apply. Wherever you’re located, you’ll have the opportunity to connect your work directly to the people, industries, and landscapes it supports.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Shape national policy and contribute to reform initiatives with real environmental, social, and economic outcomes
- Apply your skills in coordination, analysis, and stakeholder engagement to deliver high-quality outputs
- Influence and inform senior decision-making processes through clear reporting and evidence-based advice
- Work across a range of projects, balancing structure with variety and scope for initiative
The Role
Reporting to the Director, you will coordinate and contribute to a mix of performance reporting, strategic policy, and project management work. While performance reporting is a component, much of the role involves broader coordination and strategic policy activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and delivering performance reporting under the Commonwealth Performance Framework, including inputs to the Corporate Plan, Annual Report, and Portfolio Budget Statements
- Supporting business divisions to develop operational plans that align to strategic goals
- Analysing performance and policy data to prepare high-quality reports and recommendations for senior leaders
- Contributing to strategic policy development, including national and international water reform initiatives
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely inputs to planning and reporting activities
- Supporting projects across the team to deliver on organisational priorities
The Ideal Person
You will thrive in this role if you enjoy variety, take ownership of your work, and can quickly build productive relationships across an organisation.
You might come from a policy, governance, reporting, or program coordination background in the APS or another complex environment.
You are someone who:
- Brings strong analytical and conceptual skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear options and recommendations
- Has high attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes
- Communicates effectively in writing and verbally, tailoring messages to different audiences
- Works well independently and in a collaborative, virtual team environment
- Has the judgement and discretion to handle sensitive information appropriately
Baseline clearance is required, but the agency can assist the right candidate to obtain it. Australian citizenship is mandatory for the role.
Salary / Rate
- $70/hr – $80/hr + 12% Super
- 12-month Labour Hire contract with potential 6-month extension
- Hybrid work arrangements with flexibility on location — remote options considered
- Open to candidates based in Canberra, Adelaide, Goondiwindi, Griffith, Mildura, Murray Bridge, or Albury
- Available as a non-ongoing APS contract for the right person
- Baseline security clearance preferred, but sponsorship may be available for the right candidate
