Our participants, Our people, Our purpose

Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

The Internal Reviews Branch sits in the Reviews and Information Release Division in the NDIA and are looking to fill multiple APS5 Internal Review Officer vacancies in the Branch.

The Internal Review Branch manages all internal review requests about planning, responds to all internal review access decisions and provides participants with a clear and consistent internal review of any reviewable decision by the Agency.

Multiple APS5 Internal Review Officer positions are available in this Branch, across various locations. This is a place where your analytical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving skills and a drive for social impact can flourish. This makes every day at work rewarding as you get to work for an Agency creating lasting changes for Australians living with a disability.

Where you can add value

The APS5 Internal Review Officer will have a high degree of contact with stakeholders and will manage a caseload of review requests delivering high quality decisions that connect people with disability to the supports they need.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking evidence-based decision making as prescribed in the NDIS Act, NDIS rules, Operational Guidelines and NDIA policies.
  • Working with applicants or participants to gather information regarding the nature and context of individual internal review requests, to inform decision making. This information is often sensitive in nature and requires internal review officers to take care, adopting trauma informed professional communication.
  • Informing applicants or participants and their representatives about decisions made, and internal and external review processes and review rights.
  • Communicating in a clear, professional manner that considers the specific requirements of the participant/applicant.
  • Monitoring and independently managing caseloads, ensuring internal reviews are prioritised and completed within set timeframes.
  • Actively engage in continuous improvement opportunities to ensure capability in the role, including learning and development opportunities.
  • Contributing to quality improvement activities to enhance service delivery practice, processes and systems.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you

To be successful in the role, you will ideally possess skills, experience and/or qualifications in one or more of the following areas: Law, Social Work, Psychology, Disability Studies or another related discipline.
