Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

The NDIS Participant Employment Strategy (the Strategy) aims to positively influence NDIS participant employment outcomes. You will work with participants, providers, NDIA staff and local area coordinators, employers, and the mainstream employment sector on activities outlined in the Strategy This work is intended to ensure resources promote understanding of the importance of economic participation and increase the numbers of NDIS participants who are able to access employment.

Where you can add value

As an APS5 Project Officer you will be part of a team responsible for the implementation of the Strategy.

Duties include:

  • Translating research findings on “what works” to practical resources for providers, participants, advocacy groups, and NDIS planning staff and local area coordinators.
  • Engaging with multiple stakeholders including providers of NDIS employment supports, peak bodies, local area coordinators and NDIS planning staff, Disability Representative and Carer Organisations and government agencies to ensure employment outcomes for participants.
  • Developing guidance and resources for participants and providers and internal guidance for NDIS planners and local area coordinators to improve understanding of employment, social and community participation supports.
  • Undertaking participant record reviews to understand planning decisions and respond to escalations and requests for support.
  • Developing, managing and implementing project plans and schedules in accordance with the Agency’s project management framework.

  • Strong Microsoft skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience delivering, evaluating and supporting policy, projects and/or programs.
  • Ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships.

While this role is ideally performed from Bathurst/Penrith - NSW and Geelong - VIC, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
