The Organisation
The Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) is a non-government, feminist organisation working to eliminate sexual violence against women, young people, children and men. Our Mission is to be an active, visible catalyst for social change through the provision of high-quality services within a feminist framework.
We provide confidential counselling and practical support for victim survivors of sexual violence and their families who have experienced any form of sexual assault, sexual harassment or childhood sexual abuse.
We arrange immediate crisis appointments and provide a 24-hour crisis callout service through the Forensic & Medical Sexual Assault Care (FAMSAC) and/or Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Team (SACAT) services.
Our Crisis phone support is available from 7am until 11pm, 7 days a week.
Job Summary:
The Counselling Program Coordinator plays a key leadership role in the delivery and coordination of CRCC’s counselling services. This role is responsible for ensuring the provision of high-quality, trauma-informed therapeutic support to people impacted by sexual violence and their non-offending supporters.
Reporting to the Clinical Program Director, the Program Coordinator oversees day-to-day counselling operations, supports staff through supervision and mentoring, contributes to program development, and delivers direct clinical services. The role is integral in supporting team wellbeing, monitoring service delivery outcomes, and strengthening client care.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate the daily operations of the counselling team, including intake, scheduling, wait list and workflow management.
Provide clinical guidance, supervision, and support to counselling staff.
Assist in the facilitation of clinical meetings, intake meetings, and ensure efficient communication across the team.
Monitor and manage the client waitlist and ensure timely access to counselling services.
Support staff development through coaching, performance feedback, and fostering a positive team culture.
Provide direct trauma-informed counselling, information, advocacy and support to victim survivors and their non-offending supporters.
Support development and delivery of group programs where appropriate.
Prepare documentation and clinical reports, including court or agency submissions if required.
Contribute to the planning and review of client service practices to maintain high standards of care.
Work closely with the Clinical Program Director to review and implement policies and procedures and ensure that staff are informed of any changes.
Collect and analyse service data, identifying trends, risks, and areas for improvement.
Support quality assurance activities and contribute to service planning and strategic direction.
Participate in emergency contact roster to support urgent organisational needs.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen service coordination and referral pathways.
Contribute to education and training sessions, particularly in areas related to trauma, therapeutic approaches, and sexual violence.
Support community engagement activities aligned with the organisation’s advocacy and education goals.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential
Demonstrated clinical experience in understanding of trauma-informed practice and the dynamics and impacts of sexual violence.
Demonstrated experience in leading or coordinating a therapeutic or counselling team.
Extensive experience providing individual counselling and support to people affected by trauma.
Ability to manage workloads, prioritise competing demands, and support staff through change or complex service delivery.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills—written, verbal, and team-focused.
Strong organisational skills, including attention to detail and documentation.
Commitment to feminist principles and working within a human rights and social justice framework.
Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.
Desirable
Previous experience in a leadership role within a community-based or feminist service.
Knowledge of the ACT service system and referral pathways for victim survivors.
Experience in group facilitation and/or education and training delivery.
Understanding of data reporting processes and outcomes-based service delivery.
Special conditions
This is a woman-only position under s 34 (1) of the Discrimination ACT (1991) and is a genuine occupational qualification for the position.
Child protection legislation requires that the preferred applicant will be required to undertake an employment screening including a Police check. Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) ACT (2011) legislation requires that the preferred applicant will be required to hold a current and valid “Working with Vulnerable People' registration as proof of suitable employment screening and background checks
Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology and Counselling.
Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in therapeutic counselling roles, with experience in sexual violence, trauma, or related fields.
Current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Registration (ACT).
Current Driver’s Licence.
