SHFPACT is a not-for-profit, pro-choice, non-government, membership-based organisation, and is a member of Family Planning Alliance Australia (FPAA) - a network of independent, state-based Family Planning Organisations - and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). Our membership is varied and includes community members and community organisations, government service providers, academics and health professionals.
SHFPACT Procedural Nurses employed by SHFPACT operate within organisational policy and procedures, including clinical nurse guidelines for practice. SHFPACT Procedural Nurse are Enrolled Nurses (EN) or Registered Nurses (RNs), working to the requirements and expectations of enrolled nurses as outlined in the Modern Nurses Award 2020 and work within the accepted ethical practices of that profession, such as the National Competency Standards for Enrolled Nurses, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses (Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist and support clients accessing sexual and reproductive health services.
Liaise with and assist medical officers with procedures including IUD insertions and removals and other services as required, including preparation of necessary facilities, equipment and supplies.
Monitor and support clients in the recovery period following procedures including follow up reporting to the primary clinician, and maintaining accurate client records and reports as required.
Provide excellent medical reception and telephone customer service.
Manage client appointments and client flow using computerised appointment systems.
Seek feedback from clients in relation to service delivery and direct client complaints to the clinic management team.
Qualifications:
Current qualification and AHPRA registration as an Enrolled or Registered Nurse
Current CPR (minimum) or First Aid qualification
Infection control training or qualification
Experience:
Minimum one-year post-qualification work experience as an enrolled nurse
Previous employment experience in a non-government health or community services organisation, family planning, sexual and reproductive health or women’s health services setting
Knowledge:
Current infection control guidelines and practices
Understanding of the sexual and reproductive health needs of the general community and priority populations
Values and Attitudes:
Understanding of and professional commitment to promoting sexual and reproductive health within a pro-choice, client-centred and comprehensive framework
Demonstrated commitment to ensuring high quality client service
Skills and Abilities:
Effective written & verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to prioritise and complete work tasks with minimal direction
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
English-language literacy and numeracy level necessary for work in a clinical environment
Competency with the use of common computer-based file management, booking, spreadsheet, and word processing packages and software
