About this opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Water Quality Officer to join our Water Treatment Program within the Infrastructure & Operations Directorate. This role is responsible for identifying water quality risks, providing scientific and technical support, and ensuring compliance with environmental and public health legislation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating field trips, equipment calibration, and sample collection.
  • Reviewing and updating water quality management plans and monitoring programs.
  • Liaising with stakeholders and managing complex environmental incidents.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory directives and obtaining necessary approvals.
  • Preparing technical and statutory reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Providing expert advice and mentoring to staff.
  • Contributing to policy development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Degree in Science or Environmental Science with substantial experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in environmental management and water quality assessments.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and policies.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing contractors.
  • QLD"C" Class Driver's Licence and Marine Driver's Licence (or equivalents).

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Experience with referral dam management and tropical environments.
  • Experience in local government.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Water Quality or similar.
