The Roles:
This advertisement seeks to fill two vacant Senior Water Officer positions within North Region, Water Resource Management.

1 x Senior Water Officer, Water Projects and Unallocated Water Operating from within Water Resource Management, North Region, you will be involved in dealings with unallocated water under water plans and water management protocols. This includes the delivery of projects and services that contribute to achieving sustainable management and use of water resources, consistent with Departmental frameworks, policies and priorities in partnership with stakeholders.

1 x Senior Water Officer, Water Resource Assessment Operating from within Water Resource Management, North Region, you will be involved in the allocation and management of water pursuant to the provisions of the Water Act 2000, Planning Act 2016, water plans and water management protocols. This includes the delivery of projects and services that contribute to achieving sustainable management and use of water resources, consistent with Departmental frameworks, policies and priorities, in partnership with stakeholders.

This position is available at the following locations: Townsville, South Johnstone, Ayr, Cairns, Mareeba, Mackay, Rockhampton, Longreach. Please advise your preference.

The key duties and accountabilities of both roles include:
• Contribute to a high performing small team responsible for the delivery of services and administering water resource assessment in the North Region.
• Undertake investigations and make recommendations under the Water Act 2000 and the Planning Act 2016 in relation to water authorisations and watercourse determinations.
• Review the investigations of others and provide guidance on processes, procedures, and legislation relating to water resource management.
• Monitor condition and trend of surface water and groundwater resources and implement water management strategies, where necessary, to manage sustainable access and water.
• Contribute to the planning, development and implementation of management frameworks for surface water and groundwater.
• Engage clients in the resolution of complex procedural issues associated with competing demands for water resources.
• Consult, liaise and provide information to user groups, the general public, staff and Government agencies on water resource management matters.
• Other duties as directed as required.
