Lead Business Analyst - Insurance Platform (General/Commercial)
Location: Sydney CBD (Hybrid, 2-3 days office)
Type: Permanent, Full-time

Role Overview
The Lead Business Analyst will establish and lead the business analysis practice while remaining hands-on across complex insurance platform implementation projects. With strong experience in general or commercial insurance, this role involves leading discovery, design, and validation activities, and coaching other BAs and consultants in best practice.

This is a strategic delivery position suited to someone with both consulting experience and internal leadership capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and embed standards and methodology for the business analysis function
  • Lead end-to-end analysis of insurance platform implementations, including underwriting, policy admin, claims, and compliance
  • Facilitate discovery workshops and stakeholder sessions across both business and technical streams
  • Translate business needs into detailed functional and technical requirements aligned to platform architecture
  • Collaborate with implementation, product, and engineering teams
  • Mentor junior BAs and support continuous professional development
  • Oversee solution validation, UAT, and alignment to client expectations
  • Support solution design and onboarding in pre-sales and delivery contexts

Key Requirements

  • 8+ years' Business Analysis experience, including 2+ years in a lead or principal role
  • Able to set up the BA practice
  • Deep understanding of general insurance, including policy, claims, and underwriting
  • Strong consulting background, with experience across multiple clients or projects
  • Experience implementing or working with insurance platforms or policy admin systems
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation skills
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery frameworks, backlog management, and story writing
  • Strong documentation skills: BRDs, functional specifications, process maps, data mapping
  • Tool proficiency: Jira, Confluence, MS Office, Visio or Lucidchart; working knowledge of SQL or XML
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver across concurrent engagements

Desirable

  • Experience working with insurance SaaS or configuration platforms
  • Exposure to business rules engines, scripting tools, or platform configuration
  • Certifications such as CBAP, PMI-PBA, or Agile credentials (Scrum Master, SAFe)
