The Role
The Audio Visual (AV) Pre-Sales Engineer plays a pivotal role in the development of technical solutions for AV proposals across a broad range of commercial and corporate environments. Based in our Sydney office, this role supports the national sales and project delivery teams (Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane), ensuring that all AV system designs are innovative, practical, and aligned with both client needs and develops a company standard in product selection and use.
The Pre-Sales Engineer will work closely with Business Development Managers, Project Managers, and Technical Staff to deliver design documentation, schematics, and bill of materials that support client proposals and project implementations. This position will also contribute to technical discovery sessions, solution scoping, and may assist in the commissioning phase of projects.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Sales Engineering & Solution Design:
Assist Sales Team with scoping AV requirements based on client meetings, site inspections, and project briefs.
Develop and document AV system designs including schematics, functional descriptions, signal flow diagrams, layout drawings, and block diagrams.
Prepare detailed and accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) for proposals and tenders.
Research, recommend, and specify suitable AV products and technologies based on project requirements and budget.
Provide expert technical input for proposals and quotations.
Technical Documentation & Standards:
Maintain and develop company-wide AV design documentation templates and standards.
Contribute to technical scopes of work, system architecture documentation, and commissioning plans.
Collaborate with the installation and engineering teams to ensure designs are practical, installable, and technically sound.
Project Implementation & Commissioning Support:
Provide technical guidance to project managers and installation teams during implementation.
Review shop drawings, rack layouts, wiring schematics, and site drawings as part of the delivery phase.
Assist with system commissioning and troubleshooting when required.
Liaise with manufacturers and distributors for technical support and firmware/hardware specifications.
Internal Support & Knowledge Sharing:
Provide design and technical support to sales and project teams in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.
Conduct internal training sessions and documentation handovers for staff unfamiliar with new technologies or design approaches.
Stay up to date with emerging AV technologies, control systems, video conferencing platforms (Microsoft Teams, Zoom), and integration methodologies.

Skills and Experience
Required:
Minimum 5 years' experience in AV system design and/or engineering.
Proficient in developing AV drawings and schematics using software such as AutoCAD, Visio, or D-Tools/Bluebeam.
Strong technical knowledge across video conferencing, audio distribution, control systems (e.g. Crestron, Extron), and display technologies.
Demonstrated experience producing BOMs and AV documentation for commercial fit-outs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
CTS or CTS-D certification (or progress towards).
Familiarity with Microsoft Teams Room and Zoom Room architecture.
Experience with AV over IP solutions and networking fundamentals.
Exposure to construction and electrical environments or experience working alongside builders and consultants.
