Full mandate to design, lead and grow aquatic ecology nationally

As a Principal Aquatic Ecologist, join a rapidly scaling consultancy where you’ll set the direction, build the team, and shape the future of aquatic ecology services.

This isn’t about inheriting a legacy team - it’s about building one your way, with the support of a highly capable leadership group across contaminated land, EIA, approvals and risk. The internal demand is already there. You just need to lead it.

The Role:

You’ll take ownership of the aquatic ecology function - both strategically and technically and work with a strong pipeline of projects across infrastructure, renewables, energy and resources.

Develop and deliver aquatic ecology strategy and capability across the business

Build, lead and mentor a team of aquatic specialists

Lead fieldwork design and implementation across freshwater and estuarine environments

Contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams delivering EIAs, impact assessments and approvals

Engage with clients, regulators and community stakeholders

Produce robust, defensible reporting that holds up to scrutiny

Collaborate closely with Principals across other service lines to deliver integrated outcomes

What You’ll Bring:

Strong consulting experience (likely 10+ years) in aquatic ecology

Deep knowledge of freshwater ecology, impact assessment and field programs

Solid commercial understanding and a willingness to engage in team building and strategic growth

Experience with electrofishing, trapping, invertebrate and diatom sampling a bonus

Confidence in client conversations, team leadership and delivery ownership
