The position is responsible to the Lead WHS Operations and provides advice, support, and assistance to the WHS unit. The role is responsible for: responding to telephone and general email enquiries; monitoring and reviewing incident reports; analysing and reporting on hazard and data trends to identify emerging issues and risks; assessing risks and initiating plans to eliminate or reduce harm; planning and scheduling of WHS programs; assisting with the design and implementation of the WHS Audit program; developing, analysing, reviewing and monitoring of WHS systems; providing support to users of the department’s online WHS reporting platform; providing support to members of the WHS unit during the design and implementation of WHS systems and programs; providing support and assistance to the WHS unit as required.

What you will do (key outcomes):

Oversee, triage and manage incidents across the department’s WHS incident reporting systems, ensuring accurate and timely documentation and follow-up.

Provide high quality advice, guidance and support to sites and other stakeholders on the implementation of the department’s safety management system, processes, online programs, and tools.

Works closely and cohesively with other WHS unit members to share knowledge and expertise in WHS risk management and advisory services.

Analysis of data to identify emerging trends to facilitate risk reduction programs.

Maintains up to date records relating to WHS programs, functions, and advice.

Participates in the development and implementation of the WHS Internal Audit program and other project work to support the WHS Strategic Plan.

Help to maintain a safe and healthy working environment by proactively reporting incidents, hazards, and injuries.

The capabilities you will bring (key competencies)

Client advisory skills: Experience in the provision of complex verbal and written WHS advice and support to clients.

Legislative interpretation: A demonstrated ability to interpret legislation, policies and procedures and provide advice to clients on these matters.

Data analysis and reporting: A demonstrated ability to gather, organise and analyse statistical information and create reports.

Technical proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Excel and other MS Office 365 applications for data trending and analysis.

Time management: The demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks, apply initiative, and to prioritise those tasks to meet deadlines.

Research and analytical skills: A demonstrated ability to conduct WHS research and apply analytical skills.

Communication and interpersonal skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.

The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN-EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.
