Mount Barker District Council is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Community Safety professional to join our dynamic team in a rapidly growing and developing district. This exciting role is key to the effective management of the Council’s Public Safety Unit, which encompasses public safety, animal management, civil compliance, and parking controls.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and contribute to a small, dedicated team to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of public safety services.

Oversee and manage areas including animal management, civil compliance, and parking controls.

Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment while ensuring alignment with Council’s broader strategic goals.

Develop and implement policies, procedures, and programs that support community safety and compliance across the district.

Ideal Candidate:

Demonstrated experience in providing leadership to a small team, with a strong focus on staff development and performance management in a local government setting.

Comprehensive knowledge of the relevant legislation, including:

Dog and Cat Management Act 1995

Private Parking Areas Act 1986

Australian Road Rules

Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act 2016

Local Government Act 1999

Strong communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

A proactive approach to compliance and public safety.
