Development Assessment Engineering Officer | 4 Month Contract

An exciting opportunity exists to join a dynamic and fast-paced local council as a Development Assessment Engineering Officer (Technical). This temporary role offers a unique chance to contribute to community development and gain valuable local government experience in a supportive and collaborative environment.

About the Role

As a key member of the Drainage Development Assessment team, you will be responsible for the assessment of development applications with a focus on drainage and flooding, ensuring compliance with council requirements. You’ll also provide administrative and technical support, manage documentation, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess development application referrals, particularly for drainage and flooding
• Provide high-level administrative support to the Development Assessment team
• Maintain accurate records using systems including TechnologyOne, CM9, and GIS
• Respond to customer enquiries and correspondence within service standards
• Work collaboratively with internal departments and external clients
• Complete tasks and manage documentation efficiently and accurately
• Contribute to engineering processes and specifications for development assessments

Essential Criteria

• Degree in Civil Engineering
• Proven experience assessing development applications in a council environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively
• Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Experience working in high-volume, deadline-driven environments
• Advanced knowledge of corporate systems such as TechnologyOne, CM9, and GIS

Desirable Criteria

• Experience using the NSW Government Planning Portal
• Understanding of the Development Control Plan and Local Government Act
