About the Role

MelSafe Operations Response Officers are part of a dynamic frontline team responsible for responding to a wide range of incidents, concerns and community needs across the city. From patrolling public spaces and investigating local law breaches, to providing support during emergencies, your work will make a real difference every day.

This is a fast-paced and varied role where you’ll use real-time information and mobile technology to guide your decisions, complete reports and interact professionally with members of the public. You’ll work closely with Team Leaders and fellow officers to deliver a consistent, high-quality service with a focus on safety, respect and accountability.

We’re looking for people who are calm under pressure, community-minded and ready to take initiative. This is more than a patrol job – it’s a chance to serve, support and safeguard our community.

Salary: $79,100.18 to $84,381.44 pro-rata p.a. + 12% Super

Employment Type: 3 Year Fixed Term, Full Time, 4 positions available

MelSafe Response Officers – 2 Positions

Shifts Roster: Day (6:00AM – 6:00PM), Afternoon (2:00pm – 2:00am), Night (6:00PM – 6:00AM)

7 days on, 7 days off

Shift Payments (in addition to salary base): Night Shift (Weekdays): $100 per eligible shift, Weekend Shift (Saturday or Sunday): $150 per eligible shift) *subject to change

Suited to those with stamina, adaptability and strong situational awareness

Attend a wide range of incidents including anti-social behaviour, welfare checks and proactive patrols

Operate as part of a 24/7 coordinated team utilising modern technology

Be authorised as a Local Laws Officer, Bushfire Control Officer and expand your career into law enforcement

MelSafe Response Officers (Day Shift only) – 2 Positions

Shift Roster: Monday to Sunday

Rostered 1 in 3 weekends

Suited to officers seeking stability, zone familiarity and routine

Deliver consistent patrols in allocated zones, ensuring high visibility and community engagement

Focus on proactive presence and early intervention and enforcement in local neighbourhoods

As part of the MelSafe team, you’ll be equipped with:

A fully integrated Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system that makes it easier than ever to manage jobs, document incidents, and track outcomes in real time

State of the art body-worn cameras that improve transparency, officer safety, and evidence collection in the field

Advanced License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology to assist with vehicle related investigations and proactive patrol efficiency

Brand new and modern electric fleet, including high-tech Tesla patrol cars, giving you the tools to work smarter and safer

Enhanced personal protective equipment tailored to the needs of officers working in dynamic environments

What You’ll Be Doing

Provide visible foot and vehicle patrols across designated zones within the City

Respond to a wide range of community concerns, including illegal parking, antisocial behaviour, animal control, and noise complaints

Engage respectfully with residents and businesses to promote education and voluntary compliance

Enforce legislation such as the Dog Act, Cat Act, Litter Act, and Local Laws through warnings, infringements, and evidence collection

Use real-time mobile dispatch and digital technology (e.g. body-worn cameras, mobile CCTV, LPR) to support operations

Maintain accurate records, reports, and enforcement documentation in line with City procedures

Support investigations into more complex or ongoing compliance matters

Assist with proactive campaigns and participate in joint patrols with other agencies including WA Police

Promote a strong culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement

What We’re Looking For

Valid ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence

Current National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain

Physical fitness to meet the demands of the role

Good understanding of legislative frameworks relevant to local government enforcement

Strong communication, conflict resolution and decision-making skills

High competency with mobile technology and digital systems for fieldwork
