About the Role
The City of Melville is on the lookout for an experienced Team Leader to guide, support and inspire our team of MelSafe Operations Response Officers who help keep our community safe 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
As Team Leader, you’ll be a key player in overseeing the day-to-day deployment of our MelSafe Operations team, providing on-the-ground leadership, mentoring and operational oversight.
From coordinating patrols using real-time data, to ensuring reports and investigations are accurate and lawful, you’ll combine people leadership with technical know-how in a fast-paced and varied role. You’ll also support the ongoing development of officers, ensuring high service standards and a strong team culture of safety, learning and respect.

Location: City of Melville Operations Centre
Salary: $93,877.27 to $100,783.71 pro-rata p.a. + 12% Super
Shift Payments (in addition to salary base): Night Shift (Weekdays): $100 per eligible shift, Weekend Shift (Saturday or Sunday): $150 per eligible shift) *subject to change
Employment Type: 3 Year Fixed Term, Full Time, 2 positions available
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead, mentor and support frontline MelSafe Operations Response Officers
Coordinate daily operations and responses across all shifts, ensuring incident response protocols are followed
Manage real-time incidents using dispatch software
Responding to escalated complaints with empathy and professionalism
Managing rosters, team performance and operational requirements
Collaborating with emergency services, internal stakeholders and external partners as needed
Work a 7 on 7 off roster, alternating between day and night shifts
What We’re Looking For
Proven leadership experience in a field-based, operational or enforcement environment
Sound understanding of local laws, evidence gathering and compliance
Strong people and communication skills, especially in high-pressure situations
Confidence using patrol and reporting technologies (GPS, Body Worn Cameras, CAD)
A practical mindset and ability to stay calm and clear-headed when things get busy
Essential Requirements
‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain
Leadership experience in a safety, enforcement or operational field
Solid knowledge of local laws and investigative procedures
Strong communication and people management skills
Having a Security Officer Licence (WA) and experience in ranger or local government operations, relevant compliance or animal handling training will be highly regarded

State of the art body-worn cameras that improve transparency, officer safety, and evidence collection in the field
Advanced License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology to assist with vehicle related investigations and proactive patrol efficiency
Brand new and modern electric fleet, including high-tech Tesla patrol cars, giving you the tools to work smarter and safer
Enhanced personal protective equipment tailored to the needs of officers working in dynamic environments
