Yilabara is a not-for-profit Aboriginal organisation specialising in the economic development of Aboriginal communities, community members, and their families. Our philosophy is based on “Creating Opportunities” across Aboriginal communities that lead to sustainable economic growth. Yilabara was established in June 2019 as a subsidiary of the NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC). We aim to improve Aboriginal community wellbeing by building relationships with community, government and industry in order to deliver real jobs in culturally responsive workplaces. Our sole purpose is to create opportunities and make a difference across our Aboriginal Communities.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Officer to undertake a range of projects including the review, update and implementation of policies and procedures, consolidation of corporate reports, project support for our Business Services team, maintenance of legislative compliance, policy, training and other registers. The Project Officer is also responsible for the provision of ad hoc support with administrative functions during periods of high demand. To be successful in the role you will have strong project management skills, high quality written and oral communication skills, data analysis and reporting experience and an understanding of continuous quality improvement and internal audit techniques.
The core responsibilities of this role are to:
Undertake projects and contribute to the timely review, update and implementation of Yilabara’s corporate policies and procedures including the preparation of project plans, revised policies and procedures, communication and training materials and their delivery.
Administrator and monitor corporate reports tracking progress of Yilabara's Strategic Plan and individual business plans.
Source, collate and compile data and information to identify emerging issues and track and report on project progress against established milestones and deliverables.
Undertake research and analysis, identifying trends and preparing reports to support informed decision-making and planning.
Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure the smooth delivery of projects, including monitoring and reporting of project budgets, resource requirements, stakeholder engagement, contract administration, and procurement.
Develop and maintain working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders and provide technical support and training to staff.
Support the ongoing monitoring and updating of Yilabara’s legislative compliance, policy, training and other business registers as well as reporting on emerging issues and compliance risks.
Provide ad hoc support with administrative functions during periods of high demand.
Essential Criteria
Aboriginality – this is an identified position under Section 14(4) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
Knowledge and awareness of the cultural practices, values and issues that affect Aboriginal people in today’s society.
Demonstrated experience in project management including planning, research, risk management, communication and reporting, planning, research and preparation of reports and documentation.
Demonstrated experience in the development, review and implementation of policies/programs and procedures contributing to continuous improvement in business processes and quality
Strong negotiation, interpersonal and written communication skills including the capacity to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and communicate professionally at all levels.
Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands, prioritise and meet deadlines.
Experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications. Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills are essential
Experience utilising financial management systems (e.g. Xero, ProSpend)
Valid Working With Children and National Police Check
Driver Licence (Class C, minimum P2).
