About the role:
The Department for Education is a leading provider of public education in South Australia, operating over 900 schools and preschools across the state. We are committed to creating inclusive, innovative learning environments that empower students to reach their full potential.
The purpose of the System Performance Division is to leverage data as a strategic asset to improve educational outcomes. We do this by effectively curating, managing, and analysing data, providing advice and insight to support evidence-informed practices, and fostering a data literate culture.
System Performance is responsible for providing data analytics and business intelligence services to the Department for Education and leads data governance.
The Data Operations and Service directorate is responsible for ingesting, storing, organising, and managing data held in the Department's data warehouses/repositories. It is the engine room of System Performance, ensuring that data is clean, high quality, usable and available. The team is also responsible for liaising with customers to assess and prioritise their requirements, and leading data governance operations for the Department. Data Operations and Service manages the full range of data life cycle functions, including business analysis, data engineering, product development, and testing.
The Department for Education is seeking a Business Analyst within the Data Operations and Service directorate. In this role, you will contribute to the development of data analytics products by performing detailed analysis of data and information requirements, enabling decision makers to leverage data as a strategic asset to improve educational outcomes.
Key responsibilities
Contribute to the development of data analytics products
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and capture business needs, and ensure products meet the needs of the department and data consumers
Perform technical analysis to curate high quality user stories
Co-design dashboards, reports, and visualisations for stakeholders using prototyping, wireframes and other visual tools
Investigate, understand, and document various data source systems and reporting processes used across the department
What we're looking for
Demonstrated experience as a data-focused Business Analyst (3+ years)
Knowledge and understanding of data analytics concepts, tools, and techniques
Understanding of data warehouse and business intelligence concepts and architectures
Proficiency in SQL, or other relevant data processing/analysis languages
Detail-oriented and eager to learn, with an ability to work in complex environments
Proven ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team
Well-developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Qualifications:
Essential: Nil.
Desirable: A tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, Data Science or related field, and one or more of the following IIBA certifications: CCBA, CBAP, CBDA and AAC.

Special conditions:
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN-EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years. Remuneration:
ASO6 $98,478 - $104,165 per annum (1.0 FTE) + superannuation (12%) and leave loading
