About the role

As the Team Leader Council Depot Stores, reporting to the Manager Building Services, Fleet & Stores, you will manage the day-to-day operations of Council’s central stores facility to ensure the timely, efficient and compliant provision of parts, consumables, PPE, and construction-related materials to Council staff and service units.

You will maintain accurate inventory control using Council’s inventory management system, including stock receipting, issuing, stock takes, and reconciliation as well as driving operational excellence by applying and embedding Lean practices, including the 6S methodology, to ensure a clean, orderly, and efficient store environment.

What your day will look like

Leading, mentoring the Storeperson to ensure smooth day-to-day counter operations and high levels of customer service

Operating and overseeing mobile plant and vehicles to safely load, unload, and position bulk materials within yard and storage areas

Managing a busy front counter, ensuring timely and accurate distribution of parts, PPE, maintenance consumables, and bulk materials to Council staff across a wide range of service areas

Handling a diverse range of stock and materials that support Council operations, from infrastructure maintenance to open space, fleet, and other internal service functions

Coordinating safe storage of items across indoor shelving, high-bay racking, outdoor yards, and designated stores (e.g. for hazardous or combustible goods), with strict adherence to OH&S standards

Liaising with delivery agents, suppliers, contractors, and Council service teams to plan and coordinate stock movements, ensuring materials are available to meet operational schedules and service delivery needs

Maintaining accurate stock control through inventory systems, including receipting, issuing, and reconciliation, with a focus on data accuracy and reliability

Introducing and driving continuous improvement and innovation through application of Lean principles, particularly 6S, to create a clean, orderly, and efficient store environment

What you will bring

Degree or diploma course in Warehousing, Inventory Management, Logistics or a related field OR lesser formal qualifications and substantial relevant experience

Current Forklift Licence (REQUIRED)

Front-end loader ticket or willingness to obtain

Demonstrated experience in managing stores or warehouse operations, including inventory control and customer service delivery

Proven ability to lead and supervise staff in a frontline operational environment

Competency in inventory systems and Microsoft Office, with strong attention to detail and accuracy

Knowledge and application of Lean and 6S methodologies in a practical store’s environment

Strong interpersonal and communication skills
