About the Position
The Senior Communications Officer is an integral part of the Communications and Marketing team. Reporting to the Manager Communications, Engagement and Customer Relations, you will prepare communications plans, develop marketing initiatives to enhance the reputation of the City, contribute to strategy development and the implementation of strategic documents. You will also prepare media releases, arrange and attend photo opportunities, and respond to media enquiries.
As part of your role, you will work across diverse portfolio areas, including economic development, waste and recycling, project services, community safety, place making, internal communications, and community engagement to develop engaging content.
You will produce a range of communications material for the City’s channels. This includes managing and developing content (including video) for the City’s social media platforms, producing EDMs and assisting with management of the City’s website.
You will also be responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations and the professional and technical development of the City’s Social Media Officer (0.4 FTE) and Graphic Designer (0.6 FTE).
Excellent written communications skills are integral to this role and an ability to write high-quality content is essential. A proven track record of managing social media campaigns is required across Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram, including the execution of Facebook ad campaigns. Experience working with a content management system is also required.
The ability to build strong, positive relationships with staff across the organisation is vital to success in this role.
This is a part-time position offered as a 16-month fixed term contract, working three days per week in a job share arrangement, with the possibility of extension.
About You
We are looking for someone with at least five years’ experience in a communications role. A tertiary qualification in communications, journalism or a related discipline is essential. Local government experience is not essential but beneficial.
