Your new role
Due to our continued growth and focus on innovation and continuous improvement, the City has created a new planning officer role for a passionate emerging planner to join our team.
As a member of the statutory planning team, you will be responsible for providing professional town planning and property advice to a variety of stakeholders across the Canning community. Proactive, analytical and detail-orientated, you will process development and subdivision applications and help prepare and review local planning policies.
This position will provide exposure to all aspects of urban planning in the City of Canning and will help you gain experience and develop your skillset as an emerging planner.

Reporting to a Senior Planning Officer, your weekly work calendar will be exciting and provide a varied range of tasks including:
Assess & determine development applications.
Process subdivision applications.
Assist with strategic planning proposals, including scheme amendments, local planning policies and projects.
Conduct inspections, assessments, research, and investigations.
Provide general planning advice to customers.
Provide pre-lodgement advice.
Assist the Strategic Planning team on different projects.
Support the City Planning administration team.
What you will need to succeed
Be a recent graduate who has obtained a tertiary Urban Planning qualification recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia.
Alternatively be a current planning officer/planner with experience in working in another local government or planning consultancy.
Be enthusiastic and passionate to kick off your urban planning career.
Developing verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Sound computer literacy skills.
Possession of a current “C” Class Driver’s License.
Current Satisfactory National Police Clearance.
